In Year 2, our History learning focuses on exploring events beyond living memory and understanding how they connect to our own lives and experiences today.
We begin by looking at Oldham’s rich industrial past, focusing on the mills and the Industrial Revolution. Children will explore:
What life was like during this period
How the Industrial Revolution changed Oldham, the UK, and the wider world
The impact this era had on jobs, communities, and everyday life
This topic helps children develop a sense of how their local area has changed over time and why it is important today.
We also learn about inspirational individuals who have made a lasting impact on our lives, both locally and nationally. This includes:
Emmeline Pankhurst – a leader of the Suffragette movement and a key figure in the fight for women’s right to vote
Winston Churchill – a significant national leader during World War II
Through these studies, children begin to understand how the actions of individuals in the past can influence the lives of people today.
Our aim is to help children develop a love of history by connecting the past to their own experiences and recognising the people and events that have shaped the world around them.
